Description of the Opto System Laser Diode Bar Unstacker With Optical Inspection VKSV3000

The full automatic bar unstacker VKSV3000 integrates two tasks in one machine. It has a dedicated geometry for unstacking bars from a jig but it also takes high resolution pictures of the p-side and both facets. The jig is placed in the jig station after  coating, the tool picks up the laser bars from the jig, separates them from the spacers with various mechanisms and sorts them on different tapes or GelPaks according to the visual inspection criteria. The visual inspection takes place in a dedicated vibration-free inspection stage that increases resolution down to 1µm defect size recognition, even though while other parts of the machine are moving. Multiple jig stations enable parallel processing and quick turnover. The jig is easy to handle and is designed to allow plasma coating on both facets.

FAQ

Why not better an integrated Stacker/Unstacker tool instead?

It depends on your situation: A combination tool that not only unstacks, but also stacks, such as the VDSB3000 might be a better option, if you are just starting to automatize the stacking process and expanding your capacity. We do in those cases actually recommend to consider the only stacker tool VJSB3000 because its accuracy is better as compared to a combination tool, yet not so versatile. If you already operate a stacking tool and want to improve speed, yield and overall capacity in the unstacking step, you will eventually be looking into an expansion to an automatic unstacker such as the VKSB3000 or this VKSV3000. In the case that you are looking into automating the optical inspection step, it might be worth considering the VKSV3000 since it does integrate the optical vision with the unstacking from the jig in one tool.

Why should I care for an unstacker with 45° geometry?

During the unstacking process, the coated bars in the jig are more or less standing by themselves and handling the jig can be a very shaky task. By leaning the jig against a 45° slope, the stack is considerably stabilized for further processing. The original technology from Opto System separates the bars from the spacers and picks up the bars in the 45° angle. The delicate coated facets do not touch any surface and the unstacker tools places the bars precisely either on taped frame or on a GelPak. While stacking the bars can be done better in a more upright angle, we do master unstacking at 45°.

What is the resolution of the visual inspection?

We can adjust the camera amplification and resolution to your requirements. Typical requirements for failure recognition on the facet and top side are 1µm and 4µm on the optional bottom side. The bars are placed on a stage where multiples pictures are taken from all three or four sides. The pictures are then automatically evaluated for defects and the bar is electronically labeled as good or bad depending on the criteria. The pictures that show the defects are saved in a HDD and can be reviewed later for recognizing eventual false negatives.

Do you provide the jigs too?

Yes, the jig is a critical part of the VKSV3000 and we will be happy to offer several designs that will adapt to your individual needs. If you have a design already that is implemented into your factory, we will be glad to discuss how it can be adjusted to fit in your existing tools and the VKSV3000.
