Full Automatic High Precision Optical Inspection And Sorting

Description OptoSystem Laser Diode Chip Visual Inspection Sorter VVSP4000

The full automatic die inspection sorter VVSP4000 picks up the chips from tape and takes high resolution pictures of the p-side and both facets. The bottom side can be inspected as well as an additional option. The visual inspection takes place in a dedicated vibration-free inspection stage that increases resolution down to 1µm defect size recognition, even though while other parts of the machine are moving to save time. Robust set-up, reliable and quick turnover are the key characteristics of this machine. The lighting and the cameras are optimized for high resolution, high contrast defect detection. The pictures are analyzed with a state-of-the art algorithm and the pictures can be saved in a database.

FAQ

Do I really need a pick and place for optical inspection?

The VVSP4000 picks up the laser dies to place them on a dedicated stage that enables high resolution pictures. In this way, the whole facet can be inspected and defects that are as small as just 1µm can be reliably detected. Besides, the laser dies can be immediately sorted in different bins according to the classification. If you are looking for a machine to remove the laser bars from a jig, you should consider the VDVS3000 that combines the unstacking process with the optical inspection and sorting in one step. If you are just looking for an optical inspection tool and the inspecting the top part of the facets is enough, you should have a look at the VVS2000 that has a special optical set-up that allows to detect defects as small as just 3µm on the facet without picking up the laser bar.

What is the maximum resolution of the visual inspection?

We can adjust the camera amplification and resolution to your requirements. Highest requirements for failure recognition on the facet side are typically 1µm for the p-side and facets. For the bottom side, since it is done while the bar is moving, 4µm is a good compromise. The bars are placed on a stage where multiples pictures are taken from all three sides. The pictures are then automatically evaluated for defects and the bar is electronically labeled as good or bad depending on the criteria. The pictures that show the defects are saved in a HDD and can be reviewed later for recognizing eventual false negatives.

Can I decide how the dies are sorted?

In the standard configuration a certain space is foreseen for the supply and delivery of untested and sorted bars. There is the possibility of adding a trash bin for defective dies too. Since most tools that OptoSystem delivers are custom made to meet specific requirements, do not hesitate to reach out if you have  a totally different configuration in mind.

Do you process my wafers?

Right now we do not have the capability to act as an OEM manufacturer but we are looking for partners to be able to do so in the future. If you want to try out how our tools work on your devices, please get in touch and send us some samples. We are eager to show off and learn about new applications. If you own OptoSystem tools and would like to offer OEM services, please get in touch too!
